Gypsy Swing, Dance and Parisian Lifestyle in Starnberg
On Thursday, January 21, 2027, the Schlossberghalle Starnberg will transform into a lively dance hall: The Julia Hornung Trio and the French jazz violinist and singer Aurore Voilqué present their swing dance evening as part of the Swing Manouche series. The highlight is the release evening for the debut album Turin – featuring virtuosic Gypsy Swing, chansons, original compositions, and an open dance floor for everyone.
From the First Step Right into the Rhythm
Starting at 6:30 PM, Domen and Fany from Swing and the City will host a dance introduction. The basic steps are suitable for beginners without prior knowledge. Then, the concert will begin at 7:30 PM, with the dance floor remaining open during the two sets. Those who prefer to listen will experience the evening up close and feel how closely Jazz Manouche and movement are connected.
When Stage and Dance Floor Speak to Each Other
A special show element makes the concert an immediate live experience: dancers react to the music while the band picks up the impulses from the dance floor. This spontaneous interplay recalls the Parisian clubs of the 1930s, where swing was created not for the concert hall but for dancing.
Gypsy Swing Between Tradition and Present
Driving up-tempo numbers, buoyant medium swings, and soulful ballads alternate. The orchestration remains transparent, and the sound thrives on precise synchronization, improvised solos, and the buoyant pulse of the typical Pompe. The musical tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli appears not as a museum piece but as a living language with room for spontaneous dialogues.
An Internationally Comprised Band with a Strong Foundation
The Munich double bassist Julia Hornung leads the ensemble. She was awarded the BMW Welt Jazz Award and a scholarship from the city of Munich. Her earthy groove and precise timing form the foundation for the stage performance. Aurore Voilqué is among the well-known jazz violinists in France and regularly plays with Thomas Dutronc. Her lyrical violin tone combines the elegance of French jazz with an expressive chanson voice.
Giangiacomo Rosso provides the solo accents on guitar, blending brilliant technique with a deep understanding of the tradition of Django Reinhardt. Lukas Bystricky delivers the rhythmic Pompe on the second guitar – the motor of Jazz Manouche that carries every dance step.
An Evening Between Concert, Dance Party, and Chanson
Paris, Turin, and Munich meet in the Schlossberghalle. The audience's mood arises from closeness, movement, and musical improvisation: experienced dancers find new impulses, newcomers discover swing, and jazz fans experience an ensemble with a sense of tradition and the present. Bar service and a dance workshop round off the evening.
For those who want to not just hear Gypsy Jazz but physically experience it, this is a unique concert experience. Secure your tickets and experience the Julia Hornung Trio feat. Aurore Voilqué live in Starnberg – amidst buoyant rhythm, glowing violin solos, and a dance floor that becomes part of the music.
